Waste safety message

EPIRB disposal

Council cannot accept Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs) at Waste Transfer Stations or in kerbside waste bins. Incorrect disposal can cause serious safety issues or trigger false distress alarms wasting taxpayers’ money and valuable resources.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority advises unwanted or expired EPIRBS can be taken to any Battery World store for free disposal. The nearest store in the Redlands is at Capalaba. For more information visit the Australian Maritime Safety Authority website.

Check your water meter

Checking your water meter weekly or monthly can help you monitor your usage and detect water leaks early, saving you water and money. It’s easy to do – turn off all taps around your home and record all numbers from the meter. Do not use water any water for at least 2 hours then check to see whether the meter dials have changed since your first reading.
