Popular television personality Heather Foord will again be Master of Ceremonies for Redlands Coast’s annual fundraiser for domestic violence services, Dîner en Rouge.
Ms Foord, a Local Government Association of Queensland ambassador and advocate for domestic violence services, has long been a supporter of Dîner en Rouge, which has become one of the foremost events on the city’s fundraising calendar.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said she was thrilled that Ms Foord would continue her association with the event, which has helped to raise almost $260,000.
“Through her involvement with Dîner en Rouge and as a fellow advocate for change, Heather knows the need for support services for women and children affected by domestic and family violence is as great as ever,” Cr Williams said.
“While we have taken great strides with a major commitment to crisis accommodation from the State Government, the disturbing fact is that the number of people seeking housing help while experiencing family violence is on the rise across Australia.
“Besides the overwhelming need for crisis accommodation, recent research has also found survivors of domestic violence are at risk of returning to violent partners due to a massive shortage of long-term affordable housing.
“Raising funds and spreading the word through events such as Dîner en Rouge is something that we, as a community, can do to influence change and I thank Heather for again volunteering to be part of that.”
Ms Foord described Diner en Rouge as a “fantastic event”.
“Raising awareness of domestic violence is vital,” Ms Foord said.
“With so many people needing somewhere safe to escape from violence in the home, there is a growing need for more crisis accommodation to be built.
“I encourage everyone to get out their red dress or tie, and come to Dîner en Rouge for a great night of raising funds for these brave people affected by domestic violence.”
Dîner en Rouge, to be held at a secret location on Saturday 18 May, is Redland City Council’s stand against domestic and family violence.
The event is credited with influencing this year’s State Government’s commitment to provide more local crisis accommodation and support for the Maybanke Accommodation and Crisis Support Service.
Tickets to Dîner en Rouge are $175 each or $1700 for 10 and are now available from the Redland Performing Arts Centre box office or by calling 3829 8131.
