Door to door inspections to ensure pet registration

Redland City Council will undertake its regular city-wide systematic inspection of domestic animals between January and April next year to ensure owners are registering their pets.

Redland City Deputy Mayor Wendy Boglary said Councillors yesterday voted in favour of the inspections, which occur every two to three years as part of Council’s compliance strategy to encourage responsible pet ownership across the city.

“Redlanders love their animals and Council wants to make sure pets are registered and being looked after,” she said.

“Each year 1500 animals end up at Council’s animal shelter, so every couple of years Council visits properties to encourage people to register their pets to help reduce that number.

“These inspections will see Council officers visiting properties across the city to check if pets are registered and while I am confident the majority of pet owners are doing the right thing, if any issues are identified they will be followed up to ensure as a city we value our pets.”

All authorised officers will be wearing a RCC uniform and will be clearly displaying identification.

If a Council officer comes calling residents should ask to see their identification.  Once they have confirmed who the person is it would be appreciated if they could be as accommodating as possible to assist Council officers in ensuring local pets are registered.

Registering your pets is easy, visit Council’s website where you can register online or download a form or visit one of Council’s customer service centres.
