Comics and cartooning, movie-inspired fun and local Indigenous culture headline a jam-packed program of events on offer for kids across the Redlands these school holidays.

Redland Mayor Karen Williams said Council was again offering an extensive program of free events and activities over the next two weeks designed to engage and inspire young people of all ages.

“Redland Libraries, Redland Art Gallery and IndigiScapes have a fantastic line-up of activities on offer these school holidays, with events for environmental enthusiasts, bookworms, aspiring artisans, tech buffs and more,” she said.

“At the libraries, kids can find Nemo and Dory, make a Lego maze, design and create a smartphone case using a 3D printer, and demonstrate their superhuman hearing abilities during Roald Dahl Day, which coincides with the release of The BFG film.

“From squishy circuits to sticker art, electronics to holiday rhyme and storytime, there’s something for everyone.”

Cr Williams said Redland Art Gallery’s school holiday program included a workshop held in conjunction with their exhibition Gathering Strands, on display at the gallery until 24 July.

“Some of our exhibiting Indigenous artists will host a workshop for kids to learn their craft and weave natural fibres,” she said.

“They can also craft polymer clay creations or create a cartoon character with award-winning cartoonist Phil Judd, while teens can enjoy a zine-making workshop hosted by comic enthusiast Jeremy Staples.”
