Russell Island fire

A fire is currently burning on Russell Island in the swamp area south of Stradbroke Street.

The fire is within containment lines but is causing large amounts of smoke particularly around Stradbroke Street which has been closed by Queensland Police.

Rural Fire Service, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, SES, Queensland Police and Council are on hand and two rotary aircrafts are currently undertaking aerial bombing of the fire.

Children, the elderly, people who smoke and people with heart or lung conditions (including asthma) are more sensitive to the effects of breathing in bushfire smoke. These people should close windows, remain inside and ensure medication is on hand.
