More than 50 exquisite watercolours from the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) Collection will be on display when Transparent: Watercolour in Queensland 1850s–1980s visits Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland from Sunday 8 February – Sunday 22 March 2015.

Works include watercolours from Conrad Martens, Harriet Jane Neville-Rolfe, J.J. Hilder, Kenneth Macqueen, WG Grant, Isaac Walter Jenner and other prominent artists.

Redland City Council’s Cultural spokesperson Cr Lance Hewlett said the exhibition would be a highlight of the gallery’s calendar of events.

“Transparent: Watercolour in Queensland 1850s–1980s is only stopping at 12 locations throughout Queensland, so it is a rare opportunity for people to come and view 130 years of evolution in watercolours, including some works inspired by local influences,” Cr Hewlett said.

“It is a testament to Redland Art Gallery that it has been able to secure a place on the touring schedule of this high-calibre exhibition.”

QAGOMA Director Chris Saines said the exhibition, drawn from the State Collection, celebrated the important role of watercolour in Queensland’s art history.

‘The tour of Transparent includes paintings of places and people from across the state, and we’re very pleased to share these important works with regional audiences,’ he said.

The regional tour has been drawn from the popular exhibition curated by Michael Hawker, Associate Curator, Australian Art, QAGOMA and explores over a century of art in Queensland.

Visiting the Redlands will be Saltwater lagoon 1911 by German born painter LWK Wirth who upon his arrival to Brisbane in 1883 made frequent weekend visits to sites along the State’s coast, panting quintessential bayside landscapes and outlooks synonymous with the Cleveland area.

There will be a free exhibition opening and floor talk for the general public on Friday 6 February 2015, commencing at 6pm.

RSVP acceptances by Wednesday 4 February 2015, phone (07) 3030 4163 or email: [email protected]
