Redland City Council has announced a program of big name entertainment to headline this year’s Christmas by Starlight on 6 December.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the list of performers would feature The Voice 2013 runner up Luke Kennedy and this year’s The Voice Kids winner, Redland’s own Alexa Curtis.“Securing Luke and Alexa is a real coup for us and we are very excited,” she said.

“Luke embraces the Christmas spirit, having performed at Australia’s best known Christmas concert Carols by Candlelight in Melbourne. A former Ten Tenor, his repertoire includes Christmas classics such as O Holy Night, released as a single last year, which are sure to add a great festive feel to the event.

“Since being named as runner-up on The Voice Australia last year Luke has released his first album A Time for Us and toured nationally as a special guest of Ricky Martin, as well as headlining his own national tour.”

Cr Williams said entertainment taking the stage at this year’s Christmas by Starlight would include Naomi Price, fresh off performances at this year’s Brisbane Festival.

“Naomi is such a versatile performer, who is best known for her cabaret and music theatre performances,” Cr Williams said.

“She also has a great sense of humour entertaining audiences with her cabaret tribute of soul singer Adele in hit show Rumour Has It: Sixty Minutes Inside Adele, and as Miley Cyrus in stage show Wrecking Ball.

“Luke and Naomi have performed together on a number of occasions and have great stage presence, so I am looking forward to them bringing Christmas to the Redlands.

“This year’s list of performers also includes local performer and winner of The Voice Kids Australia Alexa Curtis, who wowed audiences during this year’s competition with a voice and stage presence that far exceeds her tender age of 10.

“In addition to recently completing a national tour with her fellow The Voice Kids contestants and having a great voice, Alexa has another great attribute, namely that she is a local Redlander and we all know how talented Redlanders are.

”Other spectacular performers include locals Jal Joshua, Kiara Rodrigues, and Leah Lever accompanied by the Redlands Sinfonia Orchestra and the Redland City Choir.”

Cr Williams said in addition to the great entertainment, this year’s Christmas by Starlight would be held in one of Redlands’ most popular parks.

“Planning is in full swing for this year’s concert at Capalaba Regional Park, with Council inviting volunteers, sponsors and community organisations wanting to be part of this year’s festival to contact Council now so they don’t miss out,” she said.

“This year’s event will include the same exciting attractions like fireworks, food and entertainment.”
