Announcement of prize winners ─ Redland Art Awards 2014

A cocktail evening on Friday 10 October marked the official opening of Redland Art Awards 2014.

Three prize winners were nominated by judges Maud Page (Deputy Director, Collection and Exhibition, Queensland Art Gallery │ Gallery of Modern Art), Joe Furlonger (Award-winning Australian artist and former recipient of Moet & Chandon Fellowship) and Stephanie Lindquist (Director, Redland Art Gallery) from the exhibition of 49 shortlisted works.

Redland Art Awards 2014 judge Maud Page spoke about the overall impressions of the exhibition and Deputy Mayor Cr Alan Beard officially opened the exhibition and announced major prize winners.

Recognise local heroes with a Redlands Coast Australia Day Award

All commented on the high standard of works, congratulating all shortlisted entrants on their achievement during the official opening proceedings.

Representatives from Redland City Council attended, as did some of the sponsors: Lisa McLaren (Stark Creations), and Gloria Dietz-Kiebron (Redland Yurara Art Society).

Prize winners were:  
1st prize – acquisitive ($15,000) – Northern Territory artist Margaret Loy Pula for Anatye (Bush Potato)
2nd prize ($4,000) – Victorian artist Kevin Chin for Pass by
Local Environment prize ($2,500) – Queensland artist Jun Chen for Brisbane suburb

This popular free exhibition is open to the public and continues at Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland, until Sunday 23 November 2014.

Exhibition visitors are invited to cast their vote for the $500 Meredith Foxton People’s Choice Award, proudly sponsored by Redland Yurara Art Society, which will be announced Thursday 13 November 2014 on the Redland Art Awards website.
