Work is about to start on another crucial Redlands link in the massive Moreton Bay Cycleway project.
The latest section, a shared-use bridge over Raby Bay’s Ross Canal, is expected to be completed by the end of June.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the start on the bridge, which coincides with Redlands Bike Week, reaffirmed Council’s commitment to providing safe, connected cycle paths across the City.

“There is already about 38km of this cycleway, which will eventually run from Bribie Island to Redland Bay, completed in the Redlands,’’ Cr Williams said.
“This includes some stunning rides along our foreshores and through natural bush, as well as a few short on-road sections on quiet streets.’’
Division 2’s Councillor Craig Ogilvie (Cleveland, North Stradbroke Island) said the 2.5m-wide bridge over Ross Canal would link two sections of path into a continuous 1.8km bikeway.
“This completes a $900,000 project in the area,’’ Cr Ogilvie said.
“Cyclists will be able to ride from Cleveland train station, along the Raby Bay foreshore and on to Toondah Harbour and Oyster Point on a shared path without crossing busy roads.
“It will really complement the lifestyle we enjoy in this part of the Redlands as well as help commuters along the way.’’
The City’s next sections of the Moreton Bay Cycleway are scheduled to be through the Pinklands and southeast Thornlands area in the next two to three years.
This will lead to a continuous cycleway from Thorneside to Victoria Point, almost all of it on off-road shared-use paths.
The southern section from Victoria Point to Redland Bay will complete the Redlands’ part of the long-term Moreton Bay Cycleway project.
