Disaster Resilience Forums

Help us plan for future emergencies

Come along to a disaster resilience forum in March and help Council and other emergency agencies prepare for, respond to, and recover from disaster events. Community feedback will inform Council’s Disaster Management Plans. Local knowledge is invaluable in this process.

Asbestos safety

Be safe with your renovation waste

Just a reminder that to protect the health and safety of our customers and workers, all waste loads of cement sheeting, fibro, renovation waste and tiles are being routinely inspected at our mainland waste transfer stations for materials that could contain asbestos. If in any doubt, our gate staff will treat renovation/building materials as containing asbestos.

Asbestos can be found in lots of old building materials, and can be very hard to identify. You can only dispose of material containing asbestos at Birkdale Waste Transfer Station – not Redland
Bay, and only under strict conditions. It needs to be less than 10m2, double-wrapped and sealed in
durable, thick plastic sheeting (builders’ plastic). Commercial operators will also need to pay the
asbestos disposal fee.

For more information about asbestos and its safe removal and disposal, visit our website.

Redlands Good Gardening Expo

Enjoy a free fun and informative day out at the second annual Redlands Good Gardening Expo on Sunday 13 April 2014 from 9am to 3pm.

Set in the picturesque surrounds of IndigiScapes, this popular event is perfect for the home
gardener. Learn about composting, worm farming, mulching and how to grow organic food. There’ll also be plants and seeds for sale, kids’ activities and great workshops.

Visit IndigiScapes at 17 Runnymede Road, Capalaba or check out the program on the IndigiScapes website.
