A new exhibition at Redland Art Gallery celebrates the artistic talent of Redland high schools students.

High Schools in Focus I, on display at Redland Art Gallery Capalaba until Saturday 15 November, combines artworks from Alexandra Hills State School, Capalaba State Senior College, Wellington Point State High School and Redlands College students.

Redland City Council Community and Cultural Services Spokesperson Cr Lance Hewlett said the exhibition was a collaboration between Redland Art Gallery, local high schools and their students.

“The first of a two part exhibition, High Schools In Focus I is a great example of the outstanding results that can be achieved when different organisations and individuals work in partnership towards a common goal,” Cr Hewlett said.

“As part of this project, school students were given the opportunity to collaborate within a gallery environment, harnessing new skills and giving them added confidence to follow artistic pursuits.

“As part of High Schools in Focus I students were encouraged to use a range of medium including painting, drawing, mixed media, photography, sculpture, textiles and new media to create a piece to the theme of  ‘voice’.

“The end result is a diverse, inspiring and thought-provoking collection of artworks that give us a rare insight into issues driving young people in our community.

“This exhibition is a wonderful celebration of young talent in Redland City and I encourage everyone to come and learn what students have had to say with their artistic ‘voice’.”
