The Council and State Government plans for redevelopment of Toondah Harbour would destroy mangroves, sandbanks and mudflats which are important habitats for dugongs, turtles and shorebirds. The currently unspoilt area proposed for development is part of the Moreton Bay Ramsar site. Migratory birds in the area are the subject of international agreements for their protection. None of these important environmental issues have been disclosed to the community by either the Council or the State Government.
The proposed PDA scheme should be withdrawn and replaced with a thorough and transparent planning process to identify sustainable options for Toondah Harbour’s redevelopment.
